Rise and Fall of ju-jitsuIn XVII-XVIII century’s jujutsu reached its zenith. New schools were growing like mushrooms, and their number reached a record 700. Against the backdrop of his power, sophistication and effectiveness of allocated Araki-ryu, Asayama Itiden-ryu, Daito-ryu, Esin-ryu, Itin-ryu, Kiraki-ryu, Kito-ryu, Kuki Shinden-ryu, Cousiño-ryu, Muso- Ryu, Rei Shinto-ryu, Sosuysi-ryu, Sibukava-ryu, Shin-no-Shindo Ryu, Shinshin-ryu, Sibukava-ryu, Takenouchi-ryu, Tenshin Shinya-ryu, Yagyu-ryu Singhal.

In the second half of XIX – early XX centuries, during the breakdown of traditional samurai culture and the bourgeois transformation, many old school jujutsu on the brink of extinction. Some of them have changed themselves for the sake of time – both were born popular now judo and aikido. But traditions of classical jujutsu “old school” (reproach) due to the true contribution made by the few enthusiasts still not terminated. At present, Japan has been making great efforts to preserve and restore traditional ryu, which is now seen as part of national heritage. (more…)

AikiJutsuThe Japanese art of fighting without arms and with arms in their hands, arose in the XVII century and based on the general principle, called “Aiki”. In keeping with tradition Bu dzhittsu (martial arts of feudal Japan), the term “Aiki” means the impact of a strong spirit of man on the weak in spirit, with a view to monitoring and reporting to the state of immobility.

The first school Aiki-Jutsu

It is believed that the first school of aiki-jutsu developed mostly within the same clan samurai clan of Aizu. The oldest school of aiki-jutsu – this is probably the Daito-Ryu, founded by Goto Tamanemon-Tadaesi (1644-1736). However, some historians attribute the creation of the school (or bearing the same name), Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune (1159-1189). The second school is the Takeda-Ryu, founded by Takeda Takumi-no-Kami-Dzoemon (1758-1853) and member of the same clan. (more…)
